While our ‘aqeedah acknowledges the mercy and Rahmah of Allah (S), the purpose of Surah Hud is to present the stark naked truths of what faces those who reject Allah (S) and His messengers. Shaykh Amin discusses the sense of khauf with which the Surah must be approached. It is not appropriate to dismiss the Surah and its import by invoking Allah’s Rahmah because the very purpose of this surah is to instill fear and awe in the listener. This conforms to the sunnah whereby the Prophet (S) is reported to have said of the surah: شَيَّبَتْنِي هُودٌ (Surah Hud has made me old).
